The process of cryptocurrency mining involves using computer hardware (computer processors, graphics cards, or ASICs) to solve a mathematical algorithm in the process of confirming transactions communicated on a network.  Successfully confirming a block of  these transactions (simply referred to as a block,) rewards the miner with newly created coins.  The creation of new coins is the financial incentive for the miner to invest the resources into the network.
